DERWISH

Mushrooms sprouting from your skirt grow in damp soil and darkness, just like the silent resistance of hearts that have not been loved or understood.
Everything pressed into the soil will one day blossom.

This whirling dervish, arms crossed, turns inward, not outward.
The moss wrapped around its body is the chant of nature; it calls its owner in silence.
The flowers blooming on his chest are prayers rising from the earth…
And in fact he is not crossing his arms,
he is embracing those prayers.

This body stands upright like Elif…Because ‘Elif’ signifies the unity of Allah; its oneness, its infinity…
And that stance is the expression of both submission and truth.
The door it rests on is not the threshold of the outside world; it is the threshold of the inner world.
